Editor,

It’s getting to be that time of year again. I was just watching the swimming events for the upcoming Olympics. I had this thought of how many swimmers might become Olympians from right here in Lake County. With the soon-to-be Mission Valley Aquatics pool fast becoming a reality, we might find out. I hope the schools in the county start thinking about finding out who would like to be on the swim team for their school. It’s where it all starts.

It’s a sport all can work at and enjoy year-round. It’s not just for the youth of our community, but for all of us. Swimming is one of the best ways to stay fit and healthy. For those of us who need a low-impact workout, the therapy warm water pool is just the answer.

Swimming is a “life saver” in more than one way. The pool will and is creating jobs for us right here in the county. It was a dream, and with the hard work of many, it has finally become a reality. “Year-round” is a key to the whole swimming experience. Young or old, it is good for everyone.

There are still some financial hurdles to overcome, but as we say, “Let’s get it done.” Please consider donating to Mission Valley Aquatics and bring it home for all of us who want our county and communities to be the special place we all believe in.
