LAKE COUNTY — With so much going on in the world all the time, one very commonplace issue may slip your mind … how much water there is. However, this issue is a lot more commonplace and important to farmers whose industry relies on water for just about everything. As an important element of farming and ranching, wells, dams, and canal networks have been built to supply water to all parts of the agricultural businesses in our county.
Water is important not only for drinking purposes, for both humans and animals, water keeps the food humans and animals rely on growing. Bill Butler, Chairman and CEO of Aquaterrex explained, “A pregnant heifer can drink up to 25 gallons of water a day, which with large operations can use a large amount of water for just the animals.” Hay and grain, agricultural businesses closely tied to the livestock industry, also use a lot of water.
Butler’s company uses a novel approach to providing this much needed resource. As it turns out, due to climate change, increased population and antiquated infrastructure, water wells must be drilled deeper and deeper to source water and accommodate current needs. He explained his company specializes in a new solution to the issue of water levels, deep well drilling. “The most standard type of wells, which are 200 to 300 feet deep are shallow wells but what we use is a deep well which can be up to 1000 feet deep.” Using advanced technologies like satellite imaging and AI-driven analysis, among others, his company finds hidden water in deep seated water reserves.
Deep wells are more effective as they tap into the massive supply of water deep in the earth. Bill explained, “the earth’s core is constantly producing water from condensation due to the heat of the core, so the water is pushed up allowing large amounts of water to be accessed deeper down.” Deeper wells are more effective than shallow wells today because there is 20% less water on the earth’s surface and in the shallow groundwater. According to their website, Aquaterrex is unlocking reliable water resources using new innovations to address current challenges in agriculture and ultimately our food security.
With summertime heat getting higher and plants and animals needing more water, Aquaterrex is working hard to help farmers, and ranchers have the water they need to keep producing. With operations all around the USA from Texas to Montana they have been helping to meet water needs since 2020.
