LAKE COUNTY — The greatest number yet of women with serious health findings discovered at a Women 4 Wellness event happened this past May. Seven women were found to have positive screenings that required further testing to determine extent. These detections have the power to save lives. Reason perhaps, why the annual event was recently voted Lake County’s favorite.
A total of 1,271 people attended Women 4 Wellness this past May at Salish Kootenai College to receive health information and screenings from the 87 health-related entities represented. Donations from exhibitors and attendees yielded a $230 monetary donation to area food pantries, canned food donations of 68 and 85 pounds respectively to St. Ignatius and Ronan pantries and 42 filled baskets for Safe Harbor clients.
According to event organizer Eleanor Vizcarra, a significant highlight of this year’s event was a dedicated behavioral health area. “This section, easily identified by green tablecloths, featured the expertise of eight licensed clinical social workers and three licensed addiction counselors, providing participants with direct access to valuable guidance, support and resources,” she said. “The feedback from attendees and providers alike was overwhelmingly positive. The dedicated behavioral health area successfully reduced stigma, improved visibility, and encouraged open conversations about mental health.”
The various types of health screens and assessments offered included 16 medical tests/screens, 11 health assessments, 5 health exams, 9 health procedures, 3 health treatments, 10 health consultations and education, 1 health-related training and 5 medical surveys.
“We want to thank the hospital sponsors in this northwest corridor, event sponsors, volunteers, medical providers, and the women of the W4W committee support team, who generously give of their time to ensure this event continues to serve the medical needs of our communities in Lake County,” Vizcarra said.
