Editor,

I would like to express my thoughts on Michael Gale’s recent letters to the editor. It seems to me that you are the same old coming of the same old cavalry. My curiosity is getting the best of me. I am wondering why someone who obviously doesn’t like Native Americans, doesn’t like the way Native Americans govern themselves and their land, would move here and live on an Indian reservation? I have five words for you, Mr. Gale, “Love it or leave it.” Actually, I have a few more words for you, too.

You asked about fair and equitable division? You asked how is it fair to take from 350,000 people and give to 7,500 people?  Why don’t you multiply those numbers by 10 and reverse them and you will have a glimpse of our (tribal) world. We are still trying to figure your question out 200 years later. So if you ever figure it out, by all means, fill us in.

Bottom line is, this little bitty piece of land that we get to call ours, which we so willingly opened up to non-Indians not so long ago (big mistake), is becoming overgrown, and if we don’t protect our natural resources now, we won’t have anything left. You should be so fortunate that you have such a beautiful place to live, Mr. Gale, and not complain or try and change to your liking.

To all you folks who don’t think our tribe is fair and feel cheated out of something, count your blessings that I’m not in a position of power. If I were, my work wouldn’t be negotiating for something that’s already mine, it would be to close these reservation borders and quit letting non-members move here. Thank goodness for the racism of a lot of the non-members. If they weren’t so racist, we would have been bred out already. I say close the doors before that day comes.
