Editor,
In early December, while at Lakeview Cemetery to make arrangements for a headstone for my husband who had just died, my little 4-year-old granddaughter needed to use the bathroom. My daughter was instructed to take her out to the only facility they have, which is a Porta-Potty between two sheds. It was a cold and unpleasant experience.
The sexton explained that at least it was better than what had previously been available, which was nothing at all. That is just not right; how can you have employees without a bathroom, let alone a public facility without a bathroom?
So, I am writing to ask the Lake County Commissioners to approve getting a bathroom for this gentleman, the workers and anyone else who visits the cemetery to make arrangements to bury someone, to have a burial, for public ceremonies like Memorial Day, or just to visit a gravesite.
I am betting that very few people in the cemetery district know that there is no bathroom up at the cemetery.
If it means a one-time extra $5 or $10 assessed per household in the cemetery district, I am positive that money would be approved for bathroom facilities for Lakeview Cemetery.
