Polson boys, Charlo girls trump all at Lake County Invitational

POLSON – The host had the most as the Pirates track and field team took first overall at the Lake County Invitational track meet in Polson May 1.
The Pirates won 165 to trump Ronan-St. Ignatius 92, Charlo 58, Arlee 34 and Two Eagle.
The best of the best in Lake County put on a show with impressive performances.
The Charlo girls ran away with the team title with 129 points followed by host Polson with 100.
Hurdler Aspen Runkel swept the 100 and 300 hurdle events.
Polson’s Claudia Hewston won the 800, 3,200 and the pole vault while teammate Anna DiGiallonardo dominated the sprints winning the 100 and 200.
Arlee’s Aspen Meidinger won the shot put and fellow Scarlet Whitney Malatare won the long jump event. The Warriors’ Sam Nelson won the javelin event.
Polson’s Riley Sampson and Clark Rubel’s finish first and second in the shot put and second and first in the discus.
Charlo’s Tra Ludeman also had a good showing in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.52 to win the event.
Dawn Blevins took the javelin followed by Arlee’s Becca Nelson.
Ronan-St. Ignatius’ Jalen Bell won the long and triple jump and Paden Alexander took home the 800 and 1,600.
Area teams and athletes are now prepping to earn a spot at State May 25-26, but first some have to compete in Districts. Ronan-St. Ignatius travels to the District meet in Missoula May 11-12. Arlee and Polson have Districts in Polson May 10 while the Polson Pirates and Lady Pirates host the ABC Invitational May 12 in Polson.
