Editor,
Polson’s Loaves and Fish Food Pantry is extremely grateful for the food and monetary donations it received from the Polson community in 2012.
With the help of local individuals, service organizations, businesses, and churches, the pantry’s money donations exceeded the Town Pump ($7,500) and Polson Les Schwab Tires ($2,000) “match dollars.” Thank you, Polson community.
Our current stressful economic environment translates to a continuing need for emergency and supplemental food assistance in the Polson area.
During 2012, our pantry accommodated 468 family visits per month, distributing 180,000 pounds of total food product for the year. The Polson Pantry took in 203,000 pounds of food from donations and purchases. Major contributors of food included Safeway, Super One Foods, federal government, local churches (Good Shepherd Lutheran, Polson Community, and LDS), and the Greater Polson Community Foundation.
Our community continues to experience a growing need for food assistance, as the pantry registered 50 new families per quarter in 2012.
Polson Loaves and Fish Food Pantry is an all-volunteer operation with no paid staff. The pantry is currently looking for new volunteers to serve clients during our hours of operation, which are: Tuesday and Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon. Starting March 1, we will serve clients on Tuesdays from 2 to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. and noon.
Volunteering to serve others at the pantry is a very fulfilling way to give back to our community. Call (406) 883-6864 any morning during the week (except Wednesday) or drop by at 904 First St. E. in Polson to inquire about volunteering.
On behalf of the pantry clients, volunteers, and board of directors, we thank you Polson for your continuing support.
