David Theodore Werdin
POLSON — David Theodore Werdin, 69, a retired educator, teacher, and elementary principal, of Lewistown, died April 16, 2012, at a local hospital, after a long battle with cancer.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 21, at the First Christian Church, in Lewistown and another will be held Saturday, April 28, at 11 a.m. at the Christian Church on Main Street, in St Ignatius. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Croxford Funeral Home and Crematory.
David was born June 14, 1942 to Theodore and Bernice (Geiseke) Werdin in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He began as a student at Lanark, Ill. and when he was in sixth grade, he moved to Rochelle, Ill. and graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1960. He went on to earn his bachelor degree from Concordia Teachers College (now Concordia University) in River Forest, Ill. and his masters from the University of Montana in Missoula. He taught at Emmanuel Lutheran School in Higginsville, Mo., Immanuel Lutheran School in Washington, Mo., and 33 years as a teacher and then principal of St. Ignatius Elementary School. Dave had one of the first computer labs in Montana.
He coached jr. high football, wrestling, and almost all activities centered on the students. When he retired he played golf, was part of a senior pool league, played trombone and sang in the annual Christmas Cantana. He was an excellent woodcarver, Kiwanis music leader, and enjoyed watching his grandsons play soccer, football, and play in their band concerts.
Dave is survived by wife Linda (Roseleip) Werdin of Lewistown; mother Bernice Werdin of Rochelle, Ill.; sons Monty (Sue) Werdin of Lewistown and Mark David (Atsuko) of Ellensburg, Wash.; brothers Don Werdin of Appleton, Wis. and Greg (Beth) Werdin of Wittmann, Ariz.; and three grandchildren Cole, Cody, and Cooper Werdin.
He was preceded in death by his father Ted Werdin.
