Lake County Fair events began Saturday with 4-H shooting sports at Leon Hall near St. Ignatius.
Proud parents Brandon and Judy Smith watched their daughter Anya fire arrow after arrow into a black bear target during the 3-D Shoot.
“It’s fun to watch all the kids; they work so hard all year. It’s cool to see them out here having fun,” Judy Smith said.
Event organizer Nori Pearce said shooting sports is the fastest growing program in 4-H, and all the adult leaders go to state training to learn how to work with the kids.
“I think it’s one of the most exciting things in 4-H because kids compete against themselves to improve their skills, become better marksmen and become better citizens,” Pearce said.
Fair events continue throughout the week. A schedule of events can be found in the Lake County Fair book.
