POLSON — Montana Representative Denny Rehberg listened to and answered questions from about 100 constituents at the Lake County Courthouse on April 29.
Rehberg serves on the House Appropriations Committee, but he tries to lead by example cutting $23 billion from his subcommittee. He also said Congress this year had to finish up the work left unfinished last year.
Everything from encapsulation technology brought from Japan, campaign reform, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and whether Rehberg was a member of the Tea Party came up.
Rehberg debunked a few rumors floating around on the Internet. He said he has a retirement plan just like everyone else, and his insurance is through Montana Blue Cross Blue Shield. He added that a one-term senator or congressman does not get lifetime insurance.
Rosemary Hickey questioned Rehberg about cuts to Planned Parenthood since the program serves many young adults and people with no insurance.
In answer, Rehberg said Medicaid covers the same services, but Hickey argued that many young people use the services but may not be eligible for Medicaid.
When asked if he was a Tea Party member, Rehberg said there is really no such party. He does caucus with the Tea Party, however.
A serviceman’s mother was incensed because her son serving in the middle east received half pay last month was mollified when a Rehberg staffer said military personnel received two paychecks last month.
Rehberg urged constituents to email him at www.rehberg.house.gov.
