POLSON — A team named Broken Toaster braved damp conditions to cruise to a first place finish at the first-ever Main Street Relay Race on Sunday, March 27.
Team members Mike Sitter, Shawn Hendrickson, Clay Bird and Sarah Hartsoch completed the two-mile course in 12:06, 42 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Kicking Horse.
Prizes, including horseshoe crosses handmade by Cory and Angie Knutson, olive wood sculptures made in the Holy Land, and an assortment of Fair Trade chocolates and teas, were awarded to the top five finishing teams. A random drawing for Showboat Theater coupons went to “The Fast and The Furious” team members.
The race was sponsored by the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church youth group. Proceeds will support the kids’ upcoming trip to Bethlehem, where they will meet and serve alongside Christians living there.
“We thank everyone who came out on a cold and wet day to participate,” says organizer Lori Russell. “We plan to make this an annual event, so watch for details next spring.”
