CHARLO – Charlo senior Joel Lewis decided to go with his initial instinct and choose to attend the Air Force Academy this coming fall. In March, Lewis learned that he’d been accepted into the prestigious West Point Institute in New York, but was still awaiting acceptance into the United States Naval Academy along with his favorite choice, the United States Air Force Academy.

Lewis made himself a desirable candidate through hard work in school and on the athletic field. He currently has a 4.0 GPA, and is involved in the National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, and Skills USA.

After being accepted to all three, Lewis decided the Air Force was the right school for him.

“It’s the best chance to fly, and I would like to end up with a career in the Air Force,” he said.

Lewis explained that the school has everything he needs to pursue his career goals. It also helps, he says, that the school is considerably closer to home than the other two. It also doesn’t hurt that he already knows a few people attending the academy.

According to Lewis, the academy has one of the best aeronautical engineering programs in the nation, and is his intended course of study.

“They launch two satellites each year,” Lewis said. “They have great programs, and it’s a good place to go.”
