Editor,

Just finished reading and catching up on the old and new news from all the VJ issues since January. Being out of the area certainly has its draw backs. Several changes make for a very easy read. I appreciate the new format of the calendar listings. Thanks for that feature. I do however long for a some-day issue which would carry seven or eight pages of academic news from our area schools.

Of huge interest is the recent news story regarding the report on how some of our representative lawmakers are benefiting from not producing food while those who are starving, literally to death, are being denied what these legislators could give away if they had the decency to do so. There are very few Montana folks who earn $100,000 a year period. And you can bet the ranch that some of those same legislators also take advantage of property tax relief at every turn. Check out what some legislators are paying in property taxes because they have opted to raise fruit tress on their lake frontage. Talk about squeezing the squeak out of the pig. To further enlighten the readership, take a look at the Environmental Working Group website, click on Farm Subsidy Data Base, a map will appear and then click on Montana and check the counties of those who represent you in the house and senate. No matter how the attempt is made to justify those monies, it still smells like last week’s fish.
