Editor,
While many places in the nation struggle as we do with the desire to balance the budget and squeeze every bit of worth out of the weary dollar, it comes as no surprise that our small communities found the courage to place their compassion for community needs above fear of the unknown.
Two fundraising events on Saturday together tallied more than $100,000 locally and there may have been others that were held the same day. This is a humbling and honest reminder that in the Mission Valley we do really care about one another.
The Boys and Girls Club Mardi Gras Montana included generous financial sponsors, auction item donors, cheerful volunteers, those who purchased event tables and of course all the others who bought tickets to the event. Many ticket holders participated in the live and silent auctions that rounded out one of the most enjoyable evenings of the year.
For Boys and Girls Club, this is one of our biggest and best fundraising events. This year we were blessed by another person who made this event special. The winner of our 2010 Mustang raffle generously decided to donate the ‘67 coupe back to the club. To match that effort we were inclined to use that car as our feature live auction item for Mardi Gras Montana.
The next blessing was a number of generous bidders who purchased the car among many, many other quality items. So, with festive surroundings, great music, a wonderful meal and fun, friendly company, it was a success.
Needless to say our board of directors, staff and the kids all thank each and every participant attending or helping with our fundraiser. Though the books aren’t quite all wrapped up for the event, we know Mardi Gras raised as much money as last year which was $32,000.
None of this would happen without your generous help. Thanks to all of you for helping us to provide a safe, fun place for kids.
