The Lady Bulldogs picked up a pair of wins in the final week of the regular season to finish second in district as Mission took down Plains Tuesday and Thompson Falls Saturday.

Bluehawk injuries and a strong second half by Mission led to a 56-29 blowout win for the Lady Bulldogs at Thompson Falls Saturday.

Thompson Falls started the game without guard Makayla Becker because of a knee injury and lost Hope Reid to an ankle injury in the third quarter as Mission began to pull away.

Thompson Falls led 18-15 after one quarter of play but Mission rallied in the second frame to grab a 23-22 halftime lead.

The second half belonged to Mission as the Bulldogs went up 36-29 after three quarters before going on a 20-0 run in the fourth to blow the game open.

Stephanie Lewandowski led Mission with 17 points in the win while Bryanna Steele added nine and Lauren Erickson and Kyla Mitchell each scored eight.

It was Mitchell who led the way for Mission Tuesday as she scored a career-high 27 points in a 50-42 victory over Plains.

The Lady Bulldogs did their damage in the first half this time around, outscoring Plains 26-16 during the first 16 minutes of play.

Plains could do nothing to cut into the Mission lead in the second half as the Lady Bulldogs picked up the win.

Along with Mitchell’s 27 points, Erickson scored seven and Ashley Courville and Lewandowski each added five.

With the wins, the Lady Bulldogs finish the regular season 8-2 in district play and 14-4 overall.

The Bulldogs find themselves in four-way tie for second place in District 7-B after downing Plains Tuesday and falling to Thompson Falls Friday.

Mission opened the week with a thrilling 39-37 win at Plains to move into a tie for second place in the district.

Plains jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the opening quarter on the strength of three 3-pointers from Andrew Baker. Mission chipped away at the lead in the second quarter and trailed by only one at halftime, 20-19.

Mission won the third-quarter battle 11-10 and the final frame 9-7 to get the win.

The Horsemen had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but a 12-footer just missed.

Every Mission player that saw the floor scored in the contest as Stuart Grant led the way with 13 points and eight rebounds while Austin Durglo added seven points and five boards and Spencer Ahlborn scored five.

The Bulldogs had a chance to take sole possession of second place Friday but Thompson Falls came away with a 37-29 win at St. Ignatius.

A close game in the fourth quarter, Garrett Reinschmidt and Jaron Laws both hit big threes to help Thomson Falls pull away.

“I have to give them credit for taking those threes,” Mission coach Lloyd Philips said. “They were 2-14 from beyond the arc before that, but they stepped up and hit those two.”

Poor shooting plagued the Bulldogs throughout the contest as Mission finished just 2-17 from 3-point range and 11-42 overall.

“Poor shooting haunted us all night,” Philips said. “Some of that was their defense but most of it was our technique, or lack thereof.”

Durglo led the Bulldogs with 10 points in the loss while Grant scored nine and added six rebounds.

Both the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs enter the post season this weekend as play gets underway at the District 7-B tournament at Libby Thursday.
