POLSON — “Is there anything falling down?”

“No,” Polson High School principal Rob Hankins said.

Hankins was referring to the rumor that “the high school roof is falling in.”

There had been leaks, Hankins said, with water running down over a locker and from the west wall of the library. Earlier leaks were in the northernmost hallway and around the perimeter of the library, so these are new sources of water.

Moisture all week and heavy rains on June 7 made the leakage worse, Hankins said. He spoke with Dan Kinyon, facilities director for the district. The weather forecast called for continuing rain, so they made the call, and PHS students got an extra day of summer vacation.

The students checked out a day early, making sure library books and textbooks were returned and lockers cleaned.

“We’re just being proactive,” Hankins said.

In the meantime, buckets were stationed around the building and between the roofs, and fans were blowing to dry sheetrock and carpeting. There were no complaints from the students, according to Hankins.
