April 9 is National Service Recognition Day. Volunteerism through Retired Senior Volunteer Program, AmeriCorps, Senior Corps and other service programs is a vital partnership of stretching our tax dollars and time in many areas.
Many facilities and organizations throughout the Mission Valley would not function without the time and effort these valuable citizens provide. We see them every day providing the work it takes to make these many programs survive — everywhere from the Bread Basket, food banks and colleges to healthcare programs, and the list goes on and on. Were it not for these dedicated people, many services provided in the Mission Valley would not exist. Volunteers are one of the key elements that help accomplish many of the great things of our local area. Many are our friends, neighbors and family members, and we could not survive without them. Please take time with me today to thank them all generously for the many services they provide.
