Editor,

The Fort Connah Restoration Society will be holding a living history rendezvous at the old Fort Connah site on May 4-5. This group has spent many years restoring the original site of this old trading post that was built by Angus McDonald. Most all the McDonalds who live on the reservation today are descended from Angus. Today, Joe McDonald is the chairman of the society.

The organization hopes that many people from the area with take the time to attend this rendezvous both as visitors and participants. They are especially looking for people who will take a living history part in the activities. If you have an outfit, teepee, like to camp out, know how to do crafts, contribute music or any other activity that will help make the event a success, your participation will be most appreciated. Activities need to fit into the period of history between the 1850s and 1880s. So far we have flint-knappers (arrowheads), atlatl throwers, wool spinners and dyers, candle-makers, tomahawk and knife throwing, bullet-molding, bagpipers and period traders. If you can demonstrate, sing or play music, or take part in any way, give Chris (406-327-7834) or Carolyn (406-745-4336) a call.

There is a great bake sale with free coffee. Donations to the bake sale help raise money for the Fort Connah Restoration Society to continue their work. Don’t miss this event if you like the early history of the Mission Valley.
