POLSON — On April 12-13, New Life Christian Center hosted the 2013 State Competition for Junior Bible Quiz. Teams from Billings, Missoula and Polson were competing for two days over Bible information studied this past season.
Polson New Life had one “A” team of fifth and sixth-grade kids that finished in second place. Polson also had two B teams of second-fourth-grade kids that finished in first and third place statewide. Quizzer Teryn Clairmont finished second; Kailana Redwood finished fourth; and James Normandeau finished in sixth place overall with individual points in the A league. Quizzer Malachi Warneke finished first; Liam Doll finished third; Bella Smith finished fourth; and Stanley Redwood finished sixth overall in the B league. It was an exciting weekend for the Polson teams to do so well at the state meet.
Friday team competitions ended by 3 p.m., and then all quizzers headed over to the Sportspage to bowl together and make new friends. The evening ended with a pizza dinner for everyone. Saturday’s events were all individual competitions with a Bible Quiz Bee similar to a spelling bee answering Bible questions. This was followed by “King of the Hill,” a speedy buzzer competition in answering the questions as quick as possible. Lastly, the fifth and sixth-grade A quizzers quizzed off in a “one-on-one” competition. Polson quizzers placed in all these competitions too numerous to list.
Junior Bible Quiz is a program for kids in first-sixth grade to study Bible facts, scriptures, and basic theology. JBQ teams then compete with teams from other communities by answering the studied questions. There are 576 questions that quizzers study each week during the season, October through April. JBQ is a fun way for kids to learn God’s truths in the Bible. Junior Bible Quiz is offered for kids at New Life Christian Center. Pastor John Corley, children’s pastor at New Life says, “I love JBQ. It is such a great way for children to learn the word of God in a fun and rewarding environment. It always amazes me the amount of scripture that these kids learn and are able to retain. We are very proud of all of our quizzers and coaches. As always, they did an incredible job.”
The A team will be going to Kent, Wash., May 3-4 for the Regional JBQ competition with the top teams from the Northwest region.
