TIF grant means more taxes

Editor,
I recently read in the Advertiser that someone did a survey on the necessity to build the bridge under the bridge. It also said everyone has wanted this for years.
I have lived in Polson for more than 13 years, worked at several public places and went to SKC twice. I did not see or hear about such a survey. I have never heard anyone mention the need for this bridge. I cannot believe this idea was brought to “all the people” of Lake County.
Spend the money on better ideas or needs. Fix the streets we all drive on; fix the water sewage plant we all depend on; or enrich the museums/parks we all enjoy on a yearly basis.
Did you ask the people who are living paycheck to paycheck if they want the TIF grant to raise their property taxes? They tell us it is not a tax, but TIF is a 20-year tax — $681,000 or $386,000; it makes no difference. Find a better way.
Our property taxes are high enough. The economy is still below normal. People are slowly buying houses again. Taxes, taxes and more taxes — I’m sick of it. Do you remember the words to the Beatles song “Tax Man”? We the people of Montana are considered lucky to live in a tax-free state. Please take a stand against this socialistic TIF grant.
