Editor,
Here are some updates on the water rights issues.
The Flathead Joint Board of Control has agreed to extend the comment period through Aug. 2 to give irrigators the opportunity to have input on the agreement currently negotiating with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe and the United States Government. The FJBC has been working to address the comments they have already received and resolve the concerns irrigators have previously identified.
There are two upcoming meetings for the public:
• Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the KwaTaqNuk Resort in Polson — the format of the regular scheduled negotiation session as been changed to include an open house. From 4 to 5:30 p.m., the public will have the opportunity to ask questions of the CSKT, state and federal legal and technical team members. At 5:30, there will be a presentation on the components of the current proposed compact. After that, public questions and comments will be heard.
• Monday, Aug. 20, 6 p.m. at the Ronan School Auditorium — the FJBC will have a presentation of the stipulation agreement between the FJBC, the United States and the CSKT. They will also go over any changes and revisions brought about by the comments from irrigators.
Concerned members of the public are strongly encouraged to attend these meetings and voice any concerns or questions they may have. Dan Salomon House District 12 Ronan
