PHS places 3rd in drama sweeps

HAMILTON — The Polson High School Speech, Drama and Debate Team traveled to the Hamilton High School meet on Nov. 12 where they competed against at least 10 other high school teams from across northwest Montana.
Molly Ricketts earned second place in impromptu speaking. Ricketts was provided with a cartoon or quotation dealing with cultural, moral or social issues for each round. Then she had three minutes to prepare her three to five minute speech.
Other Polson students placing in speech events were Gunnar Boose, eighth in Original Oratory and Cash Sisler, eighth in Extemporaneous Speaking.
Polson Policy Debaters Kelsey Koberg and Logan Nutzman placed sixth followed by Eric DeLay and Reed Hovenkotter in eighth. In drama events, Delany Kohler and Jerry Wachal pulled down third place in Humorous Duo Acting with Zach Calhoun and James Larson finishing seventh in the event.
Serious and humorous acting events are judged on the actor’s ability to portray the character, using his or her voice, body, stage movements and gestures. Actors may wear costumes and use props, but they may not use stage lighting, stage makeup, wigs or temporary hair color.
Laura Barta and Sydney Gambrel earned third place in Classical Duo Acting followed by Isak Petersen and Jarrod Plant in fourth.Sierra Pete took third place in Pantomime, and teammate Larissa Hanson picked up fourth.
Molly Whitewater rounded out the Polson placers with 7th place in Serious Solo Acting.
Polson’s Drama team placed third in the drama sweepstakes behind Corvallis in first and Ronan in second. The sweepstakes categories tally point for the entire team.
The next competition for the PHS teams will be a two-day meet in Kalispell on Nov. 19 and 20.
