Much to the disappointment of Lake County, the Mission Valley Choral Society will not be performing their annual Christmas concert at the St. Ignatius Church this year.
Conductor of the group, Mason Niblack, reported that the choir has lost about 20 vocal performers since last year for various reasons. This year’s choir consists of between 8-16 singers.
Local choir connoisseurs need not worry though — the show will go on.
“Good heavens! This isn’t going to stop,” Niblack exclaimed.
The group plans on keeping their Polson performance at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Dec. 12.
They have also made tentative plans to sing at local nursing homes and other establishments with a small ensemble.
Niblack intends to have the choral society up and singing at full force next year.
This year is nothing new for the 40 plus-year-old choir. Some years the choir’s members devote their time and energy to other priorities, making it difficult to attend Tuesday night practices. Niblack explained the years following World War II were also quiet for the choir.
In addition to Mission Valley Choral Society’s performance, there are a variety of other holiday musical events and pageants planned throughout the county.
The Mission Valley Choral Christmas Festival is a performance by four different high school choirs. St. Ignatius, Ronan, Thompson Falls and Charlo will sing Christmas carols in unison in the Ronan Performing Arts Center on Dec. 14.
The groups will practice together all day before the performance at 6:30 p.m.

• Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. — Polson High School Winter Band Concert at the Polson High School Auditorium
• Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m.— Mission Valley Christian Academy K-6th Christmas Program/mid-year grammar school performance
• Dec. 12 at 2:30 p.m. — Mission Valley Choral Society Christmas Concert at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church
• Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.— Charlo Christmas Concert grades 7-12 at Charlo Schools
• Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. – Mission Valley Choral Christmas Festival at the Ronan Performing Arts Theater
• Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. — Arlee Middle and High School holiday concert in Arlee High School's old gym
• Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. — Charlo Christmas Concert grades K-5 at Charlo Schools
