POLSON — Polson Fire Department officials don’t know what started four or five grass fires on Oct. 21. The small fires were located near the Jette Store, Jette Hill and Baypoint Lane.
“It (the cause) could have been a chain dragging, a piece of metal dragging,” Karen Sargeant, Polson Fire Department public information officer said.
Sargeant added there was enough of a frost that the fires weren’t traveling too fast.
A private citizen put out on of the fires with his fire extinguisher. Polson Fire Chief John Fairchild gave the man his extinguisher to replace the one he used.
About six firefighters went up and down the road with two brush engines to check for sparks. They also walked the ditches to make sure the fires were out.
