Letters opinion of writers, not newspaper

Editor,
Something has been brought to my attention and my conscience just won’t allow me to remain silent. It is my understanding that my Tribe has boycotted the Valley Journal, refusing to advertise with them any longer. Why? Because it publishes letters from people with a negative opinion of the CS&K Tribes.
Doesn’t the Valley Journal also publish letters in response to said letters, letters with a negative opinion of non-members? When I look through the Valley Journal, I see all kinds of letters: Some from people who are thankful, but most of them are negative and pointing fingers at others.
The problem I am seeing is this: that in a time when many of our civil liberties are being questioned and threatened, how can the Tribe say the Journal is at fault? What has happened to freedom of the press?
These letters are written by individuals whose names and cities of residence are listed below each letter. They meet the criteria of the letters policy that is printed in each addition, and are published. I don’t see the Valley Journal signing any of these letters or somehow validating one over another, and I believe they are being a non-bias newspaper. As I read these letters I take them at face value. I understand that these letters are the opinion of the one writing them, not the opinion of all, nor the opinion of the newspaper printing them.
Not every non-member is against the Tribe and not every tribal member is against the non-members on this reservation. Some, if not most of us, would like to strive to be neighbors, friends and colleagues. Why punish a local paper because of the ignorance of a few?
I believe in the Freedom of Press, the Freedom of Speech, the Freedom of Religion and the Right to Bear Arms. It is my hope that none of these civil liberties will ever be taken from me or anyone else. Today I’m saddened that there are so many negativities and divisions that keep people from striving to be just a little bit better and shine just a little brighter.
