POLSON — Recently five Bible Quizzers from Polson competed in the regional Junior Bible Quiz (JBQ) meet in Kent, Wash. on May 3 and 4.

The Polson quizzers qualified for Regionals by finishing in 2nd place in Montana. Teams came to the Regional meet from Washington, Oregon and Montana.

The Polson team, coached by Shawn Clairmont and Stephen Doll, placed 10th at the regional meet.

Bible Quiz is for kids in 1st-6th grade to learn Bible facts, theology, and verses. The Quizzers study and then compete with other teams in a speed game where quizzers are allowed to “buzz in” and even interrupt the question, finish it and give the answer.

“The amount of time these kids study and the knowledge they retain is amazing,” JBQ coordinator Cassie Warneke said. “The best part of Bible Quiz, though, is seeing the kids learn God’s truth in the Bible and apply it to their life.”

There are individual competitions for quizzers, too.

Malachi Warneke made it to the top 16 and was able to compete in a one-on-one competition on the second day of the meet. Teryn Clairmont, Liam Doll, and Malachi Warneke made it to the Top 10 in the 10-point Quiz Bee competition, which is like a spelling bee.

Since this was the first time the regional meet was held in the Seattle area, the Polson team went to a Mariner’s game at the Safeco Field together. This was a highlight for many of the kids who hadn’t been to a professional sporting event. The coaches felt it was a great end to the JBQ season and are looking forward to next year.

JBQ is offered for kids starting in October at New Life Christian Center in Polson.
