ST. IGNATIUS — Missing St. Ignatius resident Mary Jean Decker, 52, was found deceased in a field last weekend not far from where she was last seen.

Lake County Undersheriff Dan Yonkin said Decker’s vehicle was found parked on St. Marys Lake Road in St. Ignatius. She was found about one mile away.

“The vehicle was towed and we requested assistance from Lake County Search and Rescue to go out and see if they could locate her,” Yonkin said. “(Search and Rescue) searched from (June 24 to June 26) and called off the search (June 26). The following day she was found by a local resident checking on his livestock.”

Yonkin said some residents in the area reported seeing Decker the night she went missing. Once found, Search and Rescue’s man tracker team was called to determine if Decker had walked into the field alone.

“They backtracked her direction and determined that it was just her that walked into the field,” Yonkin said. “It looks like she fell into the canal, got herself out and died a short distance away.”

Yonkin said a cause of death has yet to be determined.
