Editor,

In response to Chairman Joe Durglo’s letter, Char-Koosta, July 18, 2013: Although we agree with much of your letter reminding all of us to be more respectful in our interactions with the council and the membership, we feel you appeared to be apologizing for Councilman Trahan’s behavior. Would it not be more dignified and respectful for Mr. Trahan, as a gentleman (foul language) and a councilman (leaving the chambers during a quarterly meeting) to offer an apology himself? Would it not have been appropriate for the rest of the council, at the time of Mr. Trahan’s outburst, to voice that they did not share his view? Not one of you said one word. The disrespectful comment from The Peoples’ Voice member was immediately and sincerely apologized for.

A reminder: The petition was calling for you to put up to a membership vote the decision of the remainder of the Salazar monies being paid out, it was not asking the council to vote again on this. In the Quarterly Meeting report in the Char-Koosta of July 18, 2013, you failed to mention that the Peoples’ Voice asked you repeatedly to answer their question: “Where are the missing 12 pages of 189 signatures that we submitted to you that you say you never received?” You refused.

In response to Bob Gauthier’s letter, Char-Koosta, July 18, 2013:

The majority of the membership is not “attacking” the Tribal Council. But the membership wants more accountability for their decisions and more input on them. What you perceive as attacking is really frustration. We are not allowed the opportunity to express our opinions on issues because the council’s agenda is not published, the minutes published are two to three weeks behind, and by that time the issues are already decided on and approved by the council. The membership is finally getting wise. They seem to want to know “how,” “who” and “why” the tribal economics seem to only benefit a few with good jobs and a higher standard of living, while the rest of the membership remains in poverty? Again, the petition was to put this issue up to a membership vote.
