Editor,

I am middle class America. I am an independent with a brain. Oddly, most polls done by the media think I am clueless, hooked on texting, trends and Twitter. My dad worked for the government for twenty years. I saw my mother cry when my daddy was red-flagged by his superiors for addressing concerns over using taxpayers money for big game hunting. My dad got his voice heard, but he paid the piper for it. Now we hear of phone tapping, unfettered information gathering, threatening, maligning, unfair targeting by the internal revenue service, gun running to drug cartels and abandoning our men and women in foreign countries for “who knows what?” All of these problems are labeled as phony scandals. Every American should be concerned. The hard-hearted practice of government diminishes human dignity. The call for honesty unfulfilled, accountability is lost, and no one goes to jail. Citizens of every race, journalists, white-collar workers, grocery store workers, housewives, teachers and professionals: we will all pay the piper, literally. Our children will pay. Newspapers will pay. Will I get targeted or audited by writing my concerns to the newspaper? See what I mean? I am already intimidated, my human rights diminished from fear. That is what they want, Americans to be afraid. Play the pleasant tune to lead us off a cliff to drown? Are you immune? Isaiah 59:14 says, “Judgment is turned away backward and justice stands afar off: for truth is fallen in the street and equity can not enter.”
