Editor,

Beware of the water use compact opposition who demonize people opposed to their views about issues that have no relevance to the substance of the compact.

The common denominator among these people is a mistrust of the Tribes and ignorance or refusal to be educated about what the compact does and does not do.

The current FJBC leadership who claim they represent the majority obtained their leadership roles through the spread of half-truths and untrue rumors, many irrelevant to the issue at all.

Before I would write a check in response to the Western Montana Water Users letter requesting money, I would make sure that I fully understood the consequences should the compact fail to pass.

You might want to try to understand western water law and the first in time, first in right legal doctrine.

You also might want to do a search for Klamath water issues on the Internet. (Google Klamath Falls, Oregon “Tribes Water Rights” published in the Seattle Times July 16, 2013.)

There are a lot of parallels between Klamath and Flathead, except we here at Flathead have a chance for a negotiated solution, instead of a litigated one.

The Water Use Agreement and Flathead Compact protect existing uses. Educate yourself; don’t be fooled by people with other agendas. There are a lot of folks at Klamath that wish they had a settlement as good as the proposed Flathead Compact and Water Use Agreement.
