Editor,
I recently received a fund raising solicitation in the mail from the Western Montana Water Users Association, L.L.C. I found it somewhat humorous, since it was filled with the usual lies and innuendos that the group is known for. While the solicitation asked me for money, it also spent a significant amount of ink in attacking me and my role in the Compact and Water Use Agreement negotiations.
So let me set the record straight about this Compact and Water Use Agreement process:
I am not and have not received any kind of compensation, payment, benefits or promises of the same from the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, the State of Montana, the Bonneville Power Administration, the United States, or the United Nations.
As a fourth generation resident of the Jocko and Mission Valleys and retired farmer and irrigator, I support the Flathead Reservation Compact and Water Use Agreement because it is the right thing to do for this area. The Compact and Water Use Agreement protect existing uses, allows for future uses and provides irrigators with huge financial benefits.
And no, I will not be contributing any money to the Western Montana Water Users Association.
