ST. REGIS — After surviving a scare in Hot Springs Tuesday, the Lady Vikings took care of the Lady Tigers in three in St. Regis Thursday to improve to 10-1.

Nearly a week later, Charlo coach Sheryl Kain is still trying to figure out what happened in the rollercoaster 14-25, 25-7, 17-25, 25-12, 15-7 marathon match in Hot Springs.

“I’m not sure what happened. I know one side of the court must have been cursed,” Kain said.

In the up-and-down match, when Charlo stepped on the losing side of the court in game one and three they were outscored 50-31, and when the Savage Heat was on the losing side of the court, the Lady Vikings outscored them 65-26.

“If it wasn’t for Jazmine (Hernandez-Kelley) and Deondra (Brown) we wouldn’t have won,” Kain said.

Hernandez-Kelley finished with team-high 13 kills and Brown added nine and on a mistake-filled night only had one error. Brown also had a team-high two blocks.

“I don’t know if she (Brown) sees the holes better or if she doesn’t hit it as hard, but she’s just consistent,” Kain said. “She does what she does.”

Kain recently changed the Lady Vikings’ rotation, giving Hernandez-Kelley more time in the front row, and she’s made the most of it.

“Having Jazz (Hernandez-Kelley) in the front row definitely gives us another offensive threat, another killer” Kain said.

Kinley Pope had a solid day for the Lady Vikings, finishing with a team-high 21 digs and adding eight kills. Dawn Blevins assisted on 28 of the Lady Vikings’ 50 kills and also had a team-high three aces. Rachel Hoyt knocked down 10 kills, and Kelsie Blevins dug out 15 balls.

Hernandez-Kelley and Brown were at it again in St. Regis Thursday, leading the Lady Vikings’ offensive charge in their 25-17, 25-18, 25-7 District 10-C win over the short-handed Lady Tigers.

Brown led the team with 14 kills and Hernandez-Kelley added nine. Blevins finished with a team high in blocks, assists and aces. The junior collected three blocks, 29 assists and three aces. Pope and Schaelyn Fell both had six digs.

The Lady Vikings will get a chance to avenge the only blemish on their record Thursday, when they host the Arlee Scarlets for homecoming.
