ARLEE — Despite having 11 returning players, head coach Richard Bachmeier said his team is still fairly young. However, he predicts as the season continues, lots of practice will result in a bench with depth.
“We got to work on everything,” Bachmeier said. “We need to work on consistency. We need to block out on the boards and work on breaking a press.”
Bachmeier credited poor rebounding and shooting only 15 percent from the field for the teams’ losses to Drummond, 60-28, and Seeley-Swan, 48-31.
Senior Mahalia Hendren was a bright spot for the team this weekend, scoring a total of 20 points and shooting 44 percent in two games. Hendren also pulled down 10 rebounds against Drummond and had two steals. Tiffany O’Neal and Whitney Malatare chipped in six points each against Drummond. O’Neal also had four rebounds.
Against Seeley-Swan, sophomore Alexis Schick led the Scarlets with 12 points. Next the Scarlets face Superior at home on Friday.
