Editor,

I would like to be Polson’s next Mayor.

My wife, Sharon, a 1960 PHS graduate, and I have been Polson residents since 1981 when I started a civil engineering business. I was retained by the City of Polson as its part-time City Engineer from 1982 until 2006.

I am a Navy veteran. I was a Polson Volunteer Fireman from 1982-89.

I was the part-time City Building Inspector from 1990-93. I have been the chairman of the Polson City-County Planning Board since about 2005.

Most of my working life has been in Polson with significant experience with the city. I have worked for five different mayors, five different city attorneys and numerous council members. I have observed the good and the not-so-good operation of city government.

I believe that we are in a time of the not-so-good, and it is my observation that this city commission allows a few individuals both in and outside of the government to be treated differently than other citizens.

Change will occur on Nov. 5 with the election of a new mayor and new council members. If elected as your new mayor, I can assure you every citizen will be treated with respect. Citizens will receive answers to questions in a timely manner. Employees will be held to the highest standard of courtesy to the public.

Commissioner names, email addresses and phone numbers are not on the city website; I think they should be available and accessible to those they represent.

Commission meetings will last longer but the mayor and commissioners must understand that they work for the public and spend the public’s money. Citizens that attend meetings should leave knowing their concerns were taken seriously and they were allowed time to express themselves.

I am requesting your vote for mayor. I will work diligently to make you proud and confident of our local government. I welcome any questions and comments. You may contact me at sfulton@bresnan.net, by phone at (406) 883-4544 or by writing me at 223 Claffey Drive.
