Judge Deborah Kim Christopher dealt with the following cases Thursday, Aug. 22:
Chaz Creemedicine, 20, Browning, in a change of plea, admitted committing the offenses of criminal endangerment, a felony, and theft, a felony. The court found Creemedicine guilty and sentencing is set for Thursday, Sept. 26 at 9 a.m.
According to court documents, charges stem from a May 29 incident where Creemedicine drove a stolen Hyundai car in a high-speed chase with law enforcement from Missoula to north of St. Ignatius, where law enforcement disabled the car using stop strips and Creemedicine ended up in a ditch. Creemedicine drove north on Highway 93 in southbound lanes, forcing cars out of the road and nearly causing wrecks while driving at speeds up to 120 mph.
Earl Matt, Jr., 37, Polson, pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, fourth or subsequent offense. An omnibus hearing is set for Thursday, Sept. 26 and a jury trial is set to begin Monday, Nov. 12.
According to court documents, charges stem from an October 2012 incident where a driver reported a vehicle had cut him off southbound on Highway 93 between Pablo and Ronan, and was switching traffic lanes for no reason. A Ronan police officer stopped the vehicle and noticed the driver, Matt, Jr., showed signs of intoxication. A tribal officer arrived to administer a breath test, but Matt, Jr. refused. Matt later consented to have his blood drawn at a hospital, and results submitted to the State Crime Lab showed his blood alcohol concentration to be .17. Matt had four prior DUI convictions.
