ST. IGNATIUS — The Flathead Joint Board of Control water rights subcommittee released a proposed draft agreement between the FJBC, the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe and the United States of America to the public for comment on May 31
This piece of the total water rights negotiations deals with irrigation project water rights, according to Alan Mikkelsen, consultant to the FJBC.
The FJBC is a state-chartered board representing the Flathead, Mission and Jocko Valley Irrigation Districts.
There is a 30-day public comment period on the draft, and comments are due on July 2. The FJBC requested that all comments on the proposed agreement be in written form, so comments may be sent to FJBC, P. O. Box 639, St. Ignatius, MT, 59865, or via e-mail to fjbc@blackfoot.net.
An informational public meeting on the draft agreement will be held June 21 at the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center from 6 to 9 p.m., Mikkelsen said. The open house format will feature four different stations the public can visit.
Documents will be posted on the Montana DNRC website at: www.dnrc.mt.gov/rwrcc/Compacts/CSKT/Default.asp and the CSKT website at http://www.cskt.org/tr/docs/nrd.
Hard copies will also be available at the FJBC office in St. Ignatius. Call ahead for copies and office hours at 406-745-2090.
