Pay attention

Editor,
Some concerned irrigators recently wrote about the trials and tribulations of the Flathead Joint Board of Control as though all that is, and has been, is the fault of the current board members recently elected from the docile silent majority. Interesting how the truth is manipulated and reshaped to prod the general public into actions they would otherwise never have considered.
We were given statistics like, “Half of the current budget of $300,000 is spent on an attorney,” (they’ve been spending it on the same attorney since 1988) and “since 1988 the FJBC has collected about $7.5 million and spent $3 million on litigation fees” (back when the “good ol’ boys” ran the club and apparently made some misinformed decisions to fight cases they couldn’t win — not the actions of the current leadership).
Is anyone paying attention to the rhetoric, the slant, the manipulations being used now from the “I was born here and only my opinion counts, so listen to me, not to those newly transplanted anti-government activists” club? Well, I am paying attention and I won’t let this stuff slip through unnoticed nor unaddressed.
Are you hearing the cries of “we don’t need an FJBC, it’s a waste of our money”? It’s coming from those who ran it and have now lost control over it.
Divide and conquer is the name of this game and everyone needs to be paying attention now; very close attention. You need to be asking some very serious questions and listening to the answers. If you don’t take control of your lives, someone else will and you won’t like the results.
The government is shutting down “producing” areas of our region (San Joaquin Valley, Klamath Basin) and for what? You think our “water compact” was going to be quietly passed through our legislature because it’s “fair and equitable”? Think again. Ask the farmers and ranchers in the Klamath basin what they think … now that a tribe is putting a call on all water users in that area. There will be no protection; fish trump beef and vegetables, you lose.
