ST. IGNATIUS — The Amish consignment auction claims only a few hours out of every year, but its proceeds support the Amish community’s private school in St. Ignatius for an entire school session. The 10th annual auction will take place on July 14 at the corner of Foothills and Allison Roads. Community members hope to raise enough money to provide books, upkeep and teacher salaries for the upcoming school year.

“Anybody is welcome to bring something in,” advertising director David Kuntz said.

This year’s auction features a wide range of items including crafts, carriages, lawn and garden, pack and hunting equipment.

However, the big-ticket items include over 100 handmade quilts sent in from all over the country.

Auction committee member Brenda Beachy said Amish communities in Iowa, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri and many places in Montana send quilts and other items to be auctioned off for 15 percent commission.

The 10th annual Amish consignment auction will take place on July 14 with all proceeds going to the school.

“It’s a pretty big event,” Beachy said. “About 1,000 people showed up last year.
