Donald S. Heaney

POLSON — Donald S. Heaney passed away July 31, 2013. He was born in Great Falls to Paul and Ann Heaney on June 5, 1933. Raised on ranches, he developed a love of agriculture and education and earned a doctorate degree in agricultural education and administration. Don worked in public schools; for Columbia University; Cal Poly; Colorado State and Montana State. While with Columbia University, he worked in the U.S.A. ID program in Kabul, Afghanistan. This was a fantastic and educational experience for his entire family.

Don married Ethel Oliver in 1957 and they enjoyed 56 years together and have three daughters. They were the center of his life. He enjoyed teaching them to be a family doing many things together. The family lived in Montana, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Afghanistan, California, Idaho and Colorado.

Don belonged to the Masonic Lodge, the Order of Eastern Star, American Legion and VFW.

His children will remember him for his funny and loving antics such as: teasing/embarrassing them; supporting them in sports; taking them hunting, waterskiing, camping and snowmobiling; and celebrating their birthdays.

He will be greeted in heaven by his parents; brother; nephew; wife’s parents and dear friend Rosie.

Left here on earth, wrapped in his love, is his wife Ethel; his daughters: Cheryl (Mike) Lamb, Catherine (Steve) Martinez, and Stephanie (Brian) Clark; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held in Polson on Sept. 21 at the Masonic Temple at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any local veterans organization or the charity of your choice.
