Editor,
It is imperative that legislation enacted by the citizenry not be overturned by our representatives, as they are elected to represent us. Citizens’ initiatives directly represent the will of the people, and should be embraced by our legislators, not overturned to suit their corporate-backers’ interests. Citizens’ initiatives show the determination of the common man to sacrifice and work to bypass the lethargic and mostly corporation-serving elected representatives, putting forth laws that are important to us all in the immediate. Regarding healthcare and jobs, we cannot allow our lives to pass by while we wait for decisions from a slow and bloated bureaucracy. Please take a minute to read this direct excerpt from the Citizen’s Initiative CI112 as it will appear on the ballot and recognize its power to make laws enacted by the citizens of the State of Montana into binding law.
“CI-112 generally reserves to the people the power to amend or repeal laws enacted by initiative. Under CI-112, the Legislature may not amend or repeal a law enacted by initiative unless: (1) the initiative allows amendment or repeal without approval by the electorate; or (2) the Legislature enacts legislation amending or repealing the law enacted by the initiative, and the electorate approves that legislation. In addition, the Legislature may amend a law enacted by initiative by a 2/3 vote of each house.”
In actuality, that is all of the information contained in the initiative. Simple, straightforward, people-powered legislation is what is needed in these times of corporate-controlled government corruption. If you are interested in supporting this cause through petitioning and signature collection, or would like to help in any way, contact troy_ricciardi@yahoo.com subject: CI112 and I will direct you to the materials and information you will need. It’s time to put up or shut up.
