Editor,

Sunny skies brought all sorts of leather and feather clad characters to Dayton Daze this year for the Chief Cliff Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fundraiser. Our western-themed costume party was attended by old west cowboys, a generous assortment of saloon girls, hard-working prairie folk, and even a mountain man in buckskin. Kids in boots and hats enjoyed playing Toss the Pig Bladder (water balloons) and burrowing through straw in search of hidden prizes (and cash), while their parents listened to live music, visited with friends, and lined up for delicious smoked pork and chicken. Our Rifle Raffle (won by Ron McDowell of Rollins) was a huge success, thanks in no small part to the Dukes who organized ticket sales and made this the best Dayton Daze ever for fundraising. We hit the jackpot when it comes to combining fun and fundraising, and the entire community and surrounding area turned out to support our fire department. Sharyle, Dennis, and the hustling staff at the Idle Spur continue to provide the venue, food and entertainment for this event — which could never take place without the help of all the people who contribute time and energy (and donned imaginative costumes this year) to make Dayton Daze a whole lot of fun and a great way to raise money.

The pre- and post-coverage provided by the Valley Journal was excellent and appreciated beyond words. (We may be at the extreme north of your coverage area, but we love your paper.)

We’re looking forward to next year’s costume party and fundraiser, and are already roaring with new ideas. It’s never too early to start planning your costume and float for next year’s Dayton Daze costume party.

The theme? Gangsters, Molls and the Roaring ‘20s. We look forward to seeing you there.
