Editor,
This summer the Diocese of Helena Aid to the Needy Programs of the Catholic Church awarded $1,000 to assist the Bread Basket in Ronan in its mission of feeding the hungry in our community. The Board of the Bread Basket appreciates that the Catholic Church has been so faithful in supporting our program here in Ronan. In addition, we are fortunate to have many of our local citizens, businesses, organizations, and tribal community continually donating to help feed our hungry families.
Each month the Bread Basket is able to give families enough food to last three to four days, including potatoes, canned or frozen meat, sugar, flour, eggs, dry or frozen milk, canned fruits and vegetables, rice, peanut butter, soup, bread, dry beans and juice. We serve an average of up to 200 families per month. This summer and fall our families have greatly enjoyed fresh fruits and vegetables thanks to many of our farmers and ranchers sharing from their gardens and fields.
Thanks to all of you in the community who have been responding so generously to the Bread Basket envelopes donated and sent out by Access Montana, our locally owned telephone company.
Thanks also for the great start on our fresh milk program for our families. With your continued support we will be able to keep our families with children receiving milk with their food.
It is now the time of year when everyone has a chance to make his or her monetary donation to the Bread Basket count for twice as much. Town Pump’s annual donation “Be a Friend In Deed ... To those in Need” campaign is generously offering to “meet our community’s contributions up to a total of $5,000 in matching funds. These funds will stay in our community. Any little bit given can add up to meeting a lot of need for our families. The campaign is already in full swing so feel good and don’t miss your opportunity to be part of it. The drive started in September but will end at the end of November. So now is the time to give. Thanks.
