POLSON – This just in, folks: the Polson Pirates can run the ball. Will Davey scored on three touchdown runs as the No. 4 Polson football team remained perfect during homecoming on Friday, downing Frenchtown 42-6.
“We did a great job running the football in the sloppy conditions,” head coach Scott Wilson said.
Davey scored on runs of 3, 10, and 1 yards, amassing 58 yards on the ground. Chris Cote ran the ball nine times for 69 yards, while Paul McClurg had 79 yards of rushing on 11 carries.
Wilson credits his offensive line of Josiah Clairmont, Riley Sampson, Dan LaFranier, Eric Williamson and Marlin Burke for creating running lanes and warding off the Broncs' defense.
The Pirates ran the ball 50 times for 310 yards and five touchdowns. Vince DiGiallonardo had 12 carries for 82 yards and two touchdowns, including a 19-yard touchdown pass to Justin Hoel.
The Pirate defense held its own, allowing only 60 yards of total offense for Frenchtown, who fell to 0-6 with the loss.
“The defense had another excellent night,” Wilson said. “Great overall effort.”
With the win, the Pirates improve to 6-0 overall, and 3-0 in conference play.
This week Polson hosts Libby at home on Friday, where they play for the conference championship.
