Editor,

The Mission Valley Food Pantry is grateful for more than 3,600 pounds of food recently donated from several community food drives.

As director, having just returned from a month-long vacation, I was dismayed to see how empty our shelves looked. We recently had a 25-percent increase in the number of families using our pantry, so food was moving out of our pantry at a rapid rate.

First Mission High School showed up with 277 pounds of food. Then Mission Middle School showed up with 981 pounds of food and the following day the American Legion Auxiliary showed up with 2,400 pounds of food that they had bought with money made at a fundraiser and auction. We also received a check for a new freezer from a donor who wished to remain anonymous. The extra freezer means we will be able to store free bread from the Montana Food Bank Network and hopefully give out turkeys for Thanksgiving. We are so grateful for our community support without which we would not to able to help feed the hungry families in our area.
