BIGFORK — Two Pirates celebrated their birthdays by scoring goals in Polson’s 6-0 Northwestern A rout of the Vikings in Bigfork Thursday, but their best birthday maybe yet to come.

Sean Hart and James Larson each scored a goal on their birthday to help the Pirates improve to 2-0-1 in conference and move just a tie away from clinching their first playoff bid since 2005.The Pirates could clinch the spot as early as Tuesday, Sept. 28, with a Bigfork loss or tie to Whitefish. If that doesn’t happen, all the Pirates have to do is tie one of their three remaining conference games, two of which are at home.

After going scoreless the first four games, Polson coach Jess Kittle was hoping the floodgates would open after the Pirates scored two goals in the final 15 minutes in a 2-1 win against Whitefish and that was the case Thursday.

Just two minutes into the game, senior captain Hart chipped a shot over the Bigfork goalkeeper Nate Roberson on an unassisted goal to get the party started. Hart added another goal in the 60th minute with the help of an assist by Riley Lemm – the same tandem that started the scoring against Whitefish.

James Larson scored his first goal of the season at 66:00 minutes on an assist by Giorgio Traini. Traini, a striker, scored his first goal of his high school career in the 20th minute on a corner kick by Adam Moore.

Midfielder Marcus Corley also scored his first goal of his high school career. Corley’s goal came in the 66th minute on a header from a beautiful cross by Hart.

The Pirates dominated the game outshooting the Vikings 18-5. The Pirates also had 13 corner kicks, compared to the Vikings two. Clay Frissell and Spencer Kittle each made two saves for the Pirates.

The Pirates (2-3-1) will host Whitefish Saturday.
