ARLEE- Arlee’s 30th annual Fourth of July Rodeo saw several standout performances last week.
The nonprofit rodeo took nearly six months to plan and saw one of the better turnouts in recent memory. Organizer Stephanie Hendrickson received a bouquet of flowers and resounding applause midway through the rodeo for her hard work and dedication.
“It wasn’t too hot and everyone had a good time,” she said. “It was perfect.”
Her son Billy Hendrickson won the bronc riding competition with a score of 74. Rodeo grounds owner and co-event planner R T Hendrickson said he was very proud of both his sons.
“That’s why I’m still doing it,” he said. “The boys got into rodeo and I brought them along all these years.”
Mission Valley’s own Abby Knight won the barrel racing competition in 15.15. Knight’s horse passed on earlier this year, so she’s been competing and winning with her smaller pole bending horse named Katie. Katie took Knight to this year’s state high school championship title and will carry herforward to nationals.
“It’s pretty great,” Knight said. “It’s another local rodeo and it’s great to win another. I let my horse run and she does all the work for me.”
