Editor,

Each year there are recurring city issues that affect the lives of us who live here. Decision-making has moved behind closed doors. Polson, a great place, seems stuck in a rut. I believe either Jill Southerland or Murat Kalinyaprak will be beneficial to the city.

A letter last week implied Murat’s lawsuits cost taxpayers money. So did our state representatives trying to undue a federal law. Seems more of a personal bias as to what is or is not a silly, frivolous lawsuit. If the council’s control of the time a citizen is allowed to speak at a public meeting was referred to by my name rather than called the Murat rule, I would not think it frivolous.

And who forced the lawsuits, the one affected or those in control without the desire or skill to find a less costly solution? They accessed the deeper pockets and resources in their fight against one man. As to the research the writer says she did, I applaud the effort, but would like some reference material to give it value.

I had interactions with Murat in the past and as another writer said, found that his manner of delivery was often the culprit in his results. Often there was value to his ideas. They were usually sensible, fair and without prejudice. I know of many who do not wish to hear him because of their prejudices and am reminded none are as deaf as those who will not hear.

Jill has experience working and acting within a civil body, seeking to resolve issues honestly and fairly. I fear her issues will be as others like her who have served, she must be strong enough and determined enough to combat the good ol’ boy playground and bring actions taken back before the people. If she can do that, the whole Polson area gains. She has expressed ideas I believe will benefit Polson if she is allowed to implement them.

My hope is that the voters take the time to vote for someone who can lead Polson into the future in a way we want to go, not keep us repeating the past.
