Editor,

I support Murat Kalinyaprak for City Commissioner based on his past participation in city government, acting in the best interest of Polson’s resident taxpayers. A prime example is the resort tax issue City Council placed on the ballot in 2009. Due to Murat’s information gathering and analysis, he demonstrated that the projected dollar amounts were overly optimistic and inaccurate, and that Polson did not fit the economic profile of a true resort town. He informed citizens through brochures, newspapers and his website montanaonline.net/resorttax, and as a result, Polson citizens voted to defeat the proposed resort tax by 84 percent. If passed, the resort tax would have become a permanent “regressive” tax, not only a burden for local year-round residents to pay, but also a burden for local businesses to collect, not a benefit to either one of them.

Obtaining public information is Murat’s strong suit. He will act responsibly and ethically to inform citizens on issues that affect their taxes and welfare, and encourage citizen participation in City Council meetings. Don’t miss the opportunity to elect Murat Kalinyaprak to City Commission from Ward 2.
