POLSON – Two boys from Polson’s soccer team have been honored with a Northern Class A All-Conference team spot.

Coach Jess Kittle presented the awards to midfielder Alex Helgesen and defender Spencer Raymond, both juniors.

This was Alex’s second time to be selected to the All-Conference team.

“Alex did a great job playing the middle of the field for us,” Kittle said. “He played all the way up top helping the attack, and then would recover all the way back to be part of the back line of defense. He does a great job of keeping the ball at his feet through traffic and finding open teammates for his passes.”

Alex was also a team captain this year. “We are fortunate to have his leadership through the off season and into next year,” Kittle added.

This was Spencer’s first time to be selected to the All-Conference team.

“Spencer played most of the season as a middle defender, but by the middle of the season we were able to put other guys back at the central defender position and allow Spencer to move up to midfield and attack a little more,” Kittle said. “Spencer is a great defender, but he proved to be very valuable to the team playing in midfield. He scored his first varsity goal this season with a long shot, from just inside the midfield stripe, over the Whitefish keeper’s head. We look forward to seeing Spencer playing more in the midfield next season.”

Both boys will have the opportunity to return to the soccer field as seniors next season in a bid to lead their young team into victory.

Michael Hewston, Lady Pirate soccer head coach, announced Polson’s Class A All-State/All-Conference honorees last week.

Team Captain Sarah Howell, a junior at Polson High School, received both All-State and All-Conference. This is the second year Howell has been honored with both titles in the last three years. Howell has lettered in soccer three years and also placed eighth on the All-State top 100 scorers list with 13 goals and seven assists on the season.

“Sarah is a team leader and an irreplaceable member of the Lady Pirate soccer team,” Hewston said.

Co-Team Captain Linnea Madsen, a junior, grabbed an All-Conference title for the second time in her high school soccer career. Madsen placed 23rd on the top 100 scorers list with seven goals and one assist. Madsen has lettered in soccer three years.

“Linnea is a skilled soccer player who supports the team in whatever position she plays,” Hewston said.

Freshman Olivia Hewston rounds out the All-Conference winners with her first title. “Olivia is a skilled defender who greatly assisted in all five shut-outs that Polson earned this year,” Coach Hewston said.
