Editor,

The tribe spent enormous dollars, time and tribal members’ time trying to revise our constitution. Our constitution is written simple but based on complete good intention and honesty. Experiencing the primary and tie run off with the violations, the constitution gives sole authority to the council for election rules and regulations. Leonard Gray, when questioned about violations as council/election board members, summed it up: “The election rules can be interpreted by anyone” so rules of no rules. Before the primary, the council was trying their best to prevent the recall referendum. Because of this type of action/behavior, when the council made the resolution for the 10,000, I wrote a petition for 100-percent payout plus a secretarial election for recall. The Peoples Voice was into their third poll. Lois Friedlander and Shelley Hendrickson brought it to them for help petitioning. The Peoples Voice chose to petition the BIA, then decided after BIA turned it down to split the original petition one for 100 percent payout, the other BIA recall. Lois got the attorney they used for the enrollment issue. I attended a meeting of the Peoples Voice, with explicit instructions: to support Shelley and Lois, choose three others to sign a pledge of support of the membership, and to keep the membership informed (recall.)

In December, vote for who will support membership majorities, not those who “support the best interest of the tribe” (council control), and help petition to amend the election rules, giving membership control.
